Hi, I'm Michael. I'm a software engineer - among other things - and most recently I was managing the Developer Frameworks team at Applied Intuition, an autonomy software company. Prior to that I worked at Alphabet (Google, then Waymo) for the better part of the last decade. Currently, I have the priviledge of being a full-time Dad.
My background is in global-scale distributed systems, both as a service owner and as a library and framework author supporting other developers. I'm passionate about designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality APIs, applications, and systems. I focus on creating software that is both intuitive and resilient, empowering other developers to be productive and confident.
Professionally I have predominantly worked in Java, C++, and Bash, as well as Python, Go, and TypeScript, but Rust is my first choice for personal projects these days.
Recruiters: I am beginning a job search as of April 2026 and am interested in hearing from you. I am open to both Engineering Management and Senior/Staff Software Engineering roles in areas that relate to my background. You can see my resume and get in touch.
